Tuberculosis: a global challenge and serious problem for India

Abstract
“ Tuberculosis is a very ancient serious disease; its history is closely associated with evolution of man. This but also infishes,amphibians , retiles, birds and other mammals . It spreads form man to animals and animals to animals to man. Tuberculosis is caused by a rod like bacteria Mycobcterium tuberculosis. There are about 106 species of Mycobacteria which are capable of causing . T.B. , Leprosy , Skin Ulcers and other mycobactcrial infections not only in lungs but in almost all orans of human body, Mycobacteria other than M. tuberculosis are called as atypical mycobacteria which are mostly resistant to anti tubercular drugs. The cell wall of Mycobacteria is very thick and resistant so killing of these bacteria by antibiotics is not easy hence some special anti tubercular antibiotics are used for treatment of this bacteria multidrug resistant (M.D.R.) and non curable . Now drug resistant tuberculosis is a serious international problem and is top priority of World Health Organization and Govt. of India.
