Abstract
Indian women became an important part of scientific community in the early decades and involve in the diverse fields of science and technology. Padma shri awarded Dr. Edavalath Kakkat Janaki Ammal (1897-1984) is one of the most famous, pioneer Indian botanist and plant cytologist who made significant contributions to the fields of Genetics, Evolution, Phytogeography, and Ethnobotany. This brief biographical sketch describes her life, work and contribution in science.
